According to the Guardian the market in online plagiarism is “estimated to be worth 200m”.

Barry Sheerman, chair of the Commons education select committee, interviewed for the article, declared that he expected a “a move back to exam-only courses, especially in subjects like history and English, because of the increasing concern about plagiarism.”

Take-home exams and essay assignments are an important complement to closed-book exams; unfortunately, they are now endangered. As plagiarism becomes more and more widespread, they may even become extinct.
